Creating your support system and utilizing their support correctly is key to reaching your goals.

Being successful in any aspect of your life can sometimes seem impossible, or at least improbable, especially if you feel like you’re doing it alone. It’s SO important to remember that you don’t have to work toward success by yourself – you just need to find the right support people to help you!

You may like the idea of becoming a successful “self-made (wo)man”, but the fact is, that that is rarely the case. Any successful person that you read about or see on social media has people behind them who supported, taught and inspired them to be where they are today.

If you are unsure about who should be in your support system, I’ve put together some suggestions for you. These are likely people who you already have in your life and they have already contributed to who you are today.

You need a support system to help you reach success! Learn how to find those special people.

Parents

Whether you like it or not, the adults who raised you have already contributed greatly to who you are today and who you can be. If your parents are a positive part of your life, include them in your plans for success. I’ll bet that they will be thrilled to support you and cheer you on as you make your way. For those of you reading who don’t have supportive parents, don’t worry! Create your own family of your most supportive and helpful friends.

Teachers

Chances are there is a teacher who has made an impression on you that you remember to this day.  Positive or negative, there are teachers in our lives who have the power to mold us and shape us. Seek out new teachers who specialize in the skills you need to be successful and reach your goals. Today’s world is full of online courses on any subject you can imagine. Find a course and a teacher who you can relate to. I especially love online courses that give you access to the instructor via web chat or forums so that I can make real connections with them.

The best online course I’ve taken was the Rockin’ VA Course. I talked more about it in THIS POST.

Mentors

If you’re serious about creating success, you’ll seek out a mentor. A mentor is someone who has already done what you’re trying to do and can offer guidance and support to you as you reach your goals. Make relationships with those in your niche who are more successful than you are. Ask them to help you, or offer to help them with something in exchange for some advice. A good mentor/mentee relationship will be beneficial for both parties.

Friends

“Surround yourself with people who lift you up”. I feel like I’ve seen that in a meme somewhere… But it’s true! You need to cultivate a friend circle of like-minded people who approve of your goals, want you to do better, and will help you in any way that they can. If your friends aren’t supportive of your goals, it might be time to distance yourself from those people. You can find new friends online! Look for Facebook groups in your niche or those specifically for entrepreneurs. Some of my favorites are:

Online Business BFFs

The Savvy Community

Rockin’ Virtual Assistants and Bloggers

I’ve found clients, friends, mentors, and teachers in these groups! You can too.

Now – go out there and start drafting your all-star support team! Don’t be fooled into thinking that in order to be successful you have to do everything by yourself. Start with a strong foundation of supportive people and you’ll be well on your way to reaching your goals.
