You know, we are all given 24 hours per day. Our time is limited and valuable. Do you think about how you’re spending that time? More importantly, do you know what you really want to do with it? Or how you can best spend your time? How do you know what you really want in life?

It can be easy to move along in life, doing things we need to and should do without putting a lot of thought into what we actually want to do. I find myself doing this all the time, just going through the motions.

Isn’t it about time to discover what you really want out of life so you can go after all of those dreams and goals that you have?

Figure Out What Makes You Happy

Grab a notebook.  (I’m using one of these currently)

Start by making a list of things that make you happy. That’s what it’s all about, right? We all want to live a happy life surrounded by the people we love. That’s basic. Add more detail as you write things down. Who are those people? What activities do you do that make you happy? Take out a notebook and start making your happy list.

Once you know what makes you happy, and have it in front of you in black and white, you can begin to work towards spending more time in your happy place. It makes it easier to decide how to spend your time.

Decide What Makes You Miserable

It’s just as important to realize what makes you miserable, crabby, and/or sad, and how much time you spend in that state. Yes, there are times in our lives that we need to tough it out and do the stuff we really don’t want to do. Nobody likes taking out the trash, cleaning the bathroom, or doing your taxes aren’t things you love to do, but they have to get done. Other things can be changed. So your job makes you miserable? You can make a switch. If you don’t enjoy your work hours, you can work towards getting them changed. If you hate cutting the grass, you can hire it out.

Take out that notebook again, and write these things down. Leave some space around each of the things that is making you miserable, then you can go back and write in solutions to those things later.

Once you know what makes you miserable, you can start to do two things. The first is to get these things done as quickly and efficiently as possible. Instead of procrastinating taking out the trash, you can get through it right away after dinner, and then move on to what makes you happy. This list also shows you opportunities where you can cut the miserable out of your life. For example, if you hate dusting all the surfaces in your house that are covered in mementos and knickknacks, it may be time to declutter and simplify.

What Are You Worrying About?

Ways to reduce worrying

I know a lot about worrying. I worry about everything. You too?

One more thing I’d like you write down. Make a list of things that keep you up at night. If that looming credit card bill is costing you sleep, it may be time to sacrifice the daily latte habit and cancel the cable bill so you can work towards digging your way out of debt. If it’s worrying about your health, realizing this and writing it down may give you the motivation to make that long overdue doctor’s appointment or embrace healthy lifestyle changes. Letting go of specific worries will give you free time to do those things that make you happy, and maybe allow you time to find new ways to be happy.

Seriously. Spend some time figuring out what you really want. You can’t make any lasting changes and improvements until you figure out what the end goal is.

Start right now! Leave a comment telling me one thing that really makes you happy!
